According to IIT-Delhi, this is the world’s most affordable RT-PCR based COVID-19 diagnostic kit
The Covid-19 test kits are developed by IIT-Delhi, and TCM will start manufacturing soon. The Kerala-based firm is among the seven companies chosen by IIT Delhi nationwide to manufacture the much-awaited Covid test kits.
According to IIT-Delhi, this is the world’s most affordable RT-PCR based COVID-19 diagnostic kit.
“TCM is planning to make 500 units per day which is good for 50,000 tests, as one kit is for 100 tests,” Joseph Varghese, Managing Director, TCM Ltd, said.
The first commercial batch of Covid-19 test kits will be available in the market by mid-August 2020
“The company has identified four production units in the country to help distribute the much-needed test kits easily and effectively. The first unit to start production is in Kochi’s Kinfra Biotech Park,” he added.
The first commercial batch of Covid-19 test kits will be available in the market by mid-August 2020.
According to Joseph Vargehse, the IIT-Delhi developed RT-PCR test cost will be priced at Rs.399 only. Even after adding the RNA isolation and laboratory charges, the cost per test will be considerably cheaper compared to the cost of tests (which is around Rs.4,500 per test now) with currently available kits in the market,
